8 ONE MALAYSIA COMMUNITY CONSTRUCTION

BUKIT JENATON DURIAN Valley

I had joined Bukit Jenaton group. We did water sprinkler and tagging as well. We get the chance to recognise different types of herbs from their physical appearance and fragrance. The water sprinkler system sounds easier than when we did. Basically, we did blend and dance with nature and all of us enjoyed it.

MERDEKA CELEBRATION

I didn't manage to join the merdeka installation and participate myself at times square celebration because my grandma passed away during that time. Wish that I can join them for the celebration.

4B ANALYSIS OF GT SPACES

This can be considered and 'adventurous' project. Group activity. We went to Georgetown (GT) and search for 3 buildings that attract your attention with the same theme. Take pictures of facade, side elevations and back for each of them. And again we need to do some documentation on it in both hard and soft copies. We need to do some survey on the buildings history, size, functions, visible renovation. Lastly, identify a significant ornament and sketch it to be your ic.

Feel so great just by looking at the ancient buildings and how they still manage to stand firmly from all these years. We must really appreciate and preserve the buildings.

4A A NOOK TO INSPIRE

These are some of the photos taken from my nook.

Is outdoor activity. We were required to find and locate a nook (corner) for each of us around HBP area. A nook is a place where you can lay down and relax. Is your own personal space. And we were required to take some pictures on what we can do on our own space. And that space is a SARONG space, meaning the edges of the sarong is the borders for your nook. Make documentation of your nook in power point.

PIMPIN SISWA

PIMPIN SISWA is an orientation camp for all 1st year students in USM. All 1st year students must attend this camp to dicispline themselves and get to know what APEX University is all about. In this 3 days 2 nights camp, the facilitators had tried to stress on 1 MALAYSIA too.

PROGRAM PIMPIN SISWA SIRI 4 2009
PJ SENTOSA CAMPSITE, KUALA NERANG, KEDAH

I had learnt a lot during this camp. Experienced 1st time survival cooking. Night jungle tracking. A talk regarding 1 MALAYSIA. Discussion on sustainable tomorrow and how the ideas and concepts apply on USM. Setting up our own shelter which is the tent. Not to mention there was raining at night.

For sure, we get to know more friends even students from engineering campus joined us at the camp. We enjoyed our time there and in most activities, we work together as a group to strive for the best. From this camp, I realised how much more I need to improve myself. Not just for my own good, but a better future as well.

The facilitators had worked hard to make the camping interesting and at the same time take the students safety as their priority. I must say how much i appreciate their hard work, sacrifice, and everything they had done for us.
This camp is an inspiration and motivation for every students who joined the camp.

3C BLACK BOX

ACCRETION AND SUBTRACTION. This is my light box. I cut off the pieces on the right side box and paste it on the left side box. I had made my light box in a way that it can be open so that the light does come out in the
middle too.

BLACK BOX

While for the black box is competely black in colour. Is considered as energy box. Is a box that supply the energy for my light box. From this project, we learnt the basic deisgn idea in architecture. It was really hard and need a lot of patience to complete the light box.

3B PROJECTION DRAWINGS

These are my drawings for the obelisk project. We need to build 3m obelisk according to our sketch.

3A PERSPECTIVE DRAWINGS

Another assignment that required us to sketch =) And for this time we get closer to architectural drawing, which is PERSPECTIVE DRAWINGS.Add Image We need to sketch cubes in 3 piece of A2 paper. For the 1st piece is solid cube, you can draw as many as you can. 2nd is cubes with 1 or more sides of the cubes is torn off. Lastly, we need to draw transparent cube with sarong as the background. These are my products.

SEEN AND UNSEEN

A simple and comprehensive talk from Dr. Ilias.

Basically, the main purpose of his talk is to remind us on our roles that we play. From a student, son/daughter, to friend. The objectives for you to be here in HBP. The parents' hopes that they lay on you. How your hard works that eventually lead you to where you are now. And how the students changed from years to years.

I must admit how interesting the drawings in the slides. A sudden desire came out from my mind to draw in highlights =P I thought of how excited I am when I got to know I have been reserved a place in HBP. The feeling was so real. And when Dr. Ilias mentioned about this, again it reminds and inspires me to focus on my study and must continue my journey until I achieve my dreams.

2D THE SARONG

Before we were assigned to this project, we get the chance to experience the rapid sketches. Meaning we need to finish our sketches in the minimum time given. And the time given getting less proportional to the number of sketches. It was really nervous and kelam- kabut for me. =)

And for THE SARONG, we were required to draw at least 20 different ways to wear sarong. The international students got to know what the sarong is. I'm familiar with the sarong, but never really thought of so many ways of wearing it. Lastly, I was actually wearing it to get some inspiration for THE SARONG project. =)

2C THE MASK

To produce a full face mask and finish with poster colour to show your skin tone. Work in pairs.

MATERIALS USED
- Tissue
- Newspaper
- White paper
- Water
- Tepung Kanji

It was the very first time for me doing this craft. A full face mask complete with the texture and skin tone of myself. Although the result wasn't that perfect, still we enjoyed doing the mask. Instead of working in pairs, we worked together in a group. We got the job done faster and managed to finish the mask in time. From the process, we learnt the need to trust in each other and working together needs a lot of patience.

LOGO DESIGN

To design a logo that's going to represent youself and fabricate it into rubber stamp. Is a signature that you are going to stamp on every assignments in the future.

IDENTITY

Logo is basically a symbol or graphical element ( can be alphabet, sign, number, image, icon) that form a trademark for instant recognition. EYE (VISION) & LEAF (NATURE). These are the shapes you can find in my logo design. As an architecture 1st year student in HBP, we must aware of the green issue and promote environment- friendly buildings in the future. That's the vision.

2B MAN- MADE STRUCTURE

Then, we are being asked to convert our choosen natural structure that we drew in 2A into man- made structure in project 2B.

The trees from 2A that I had done before was being changed into a shelf with lights for display purpose. The branches and the trunk of the tree is the main structure or support for the whole shelf. In between of the branches, a piece of glass is being added to hold display stuff. And for the top of the branches is wound into coil form. The light source is hidden inside.

2A NATURAL STRUCTURE

Natural structure- anything that occurs or exists naturally. We have been asked to sketch a natural structure that you can find within USM.

It was officially the first assignment that required you to SKETCH. =D I got to know more materials in art and design. Cartridge paper, all grades of pencils (soft and hard) and so on. From this assignment, I realised natural elements do have their own role in development. We must not stress only on man- made structure especially buildings and understand the importance of nature in urban planning.
